My spouse bought me two chemical peels on groupon for Mother's Day. Due to health issues, I had hormonal cystic acne, causing some hyperpigmentation, which was unusual for me. Eager to try them out for my first spa experience, I researched and heard positive reviews about this treatment. As my acne cleared, I scheduled my peel. The day before, while researching online, I learned to stop using retinol and retinoids at least two weeks before a peel. With a 24-hour cancellation policy, I called to confirm since I use tretinoin. Alondra assured me it was safe to proceed, so I trusted their expertise and went in. During the peel, I mentioned my concern to Julia, the esthetician, who assured me it was fine, just increasing sensitivity. As the peel began, a product with salicylic acid splashed into my eyes, causing irritation. I later sought medical attention for chemical burns on my eyes, leading to blurred vision and floaters. Despite this, I continued with the peel, unaware of the risks. During the treatment, Julia suggested extractions for a few pimples, which I declined, but she proceeded without consent. Post-peel, my skin became red, inflamed, and infected, likely due to improper protocol mixing with tretinoin. Despite escalating symptoms, the spa dismissed my concerns as normal. Eventually, diagnosed with a staph infection at urgent care, I faced scarring and uncertainty about long-term effects. Disappointed by the lack of empathy from the spa, I requested a refund for my unused peel, yet received no follow-up.
