I've been a patron here for a while, but I once tried a different salon in Sunnyside as a walk-in, and they completely botched my nails. I visited to get a men's haircut for my long hair. The barbers were very professional, gave me the perfect fade on the sides, and cut the exact length I requested. I felt understood as they explained the exact steps they would take and provided helpful suggestions. It's a cozy salon but very efficient (I was finished in about 40 minutes for a cut, shampoo, and blowout!) and the prices were reasonable for the area (it cost me only $50 excluding tips which must be in cash). Walk-ins are not accepted, appointments must be made which isn't too inconvenient. The salon was uncomfortably warm due to no air conditioning, and Pooja rushed through the procedure, neglecting to show me the final result or inquire about my satisfaction. I couldn't even assess the outcome properly as she hurried me to the checkout. I can't vouch for other staff members, but I strongly advise against booking an appointment with Pooja. I am still dealing with a severe breakout on my forehead above my eyebrows a week and a half later. Perhaps I should have emphasized more that I had never waxed my eyebrows before? Or mentioned my preferences for shape and avoiding pulling above my eyebrows? The lack of communication and consultation during the process was disappointing. I wish there had been a discussion about the procedure and the products being used. There was no consideration for my first-time experience, and now it will be my last.
Receiving a rude comment about my eyebrows not being symmetrical in the middle of the session was disheartening. Instead of feeling empowered and confident after my appointment, I left feeling less sure of myself. As women in the beauty industry, it is important to uplift and empower clients.
