My girl has autism, and many times she'd cut her hair in chunks. We visited Smart Style Hair Salon to try and fix it. That's where we met Melissa. She was fantastic with her and Megan is comfortable with Melissa. After almost fixing her hair, one day she cut it again. I phoned the salon and made an appointment with Melissa as Megan is used to her and she knew how we were trying to go with her hair. We arrived at our appointed time and Megan sat in the chair. Melissa didn't say a harsh word and just asked how we wanted to proceed with her hair? I told her I was at a loss. She shared a story of another client with special needs, who, as long as he could come every six weeks, sit in the same chair, and have the same person cut his hair, he was completely fine. I pondered and asked Megan why she kept cutting her hair. She said it was because her bangs were too long. I told her I could have fixed that. I asked her if we did what Melissa does with her other client, would she stop cutting her hair. She said she would even be willing to grow her hair out. Today we visited Melissa. Megan's hair is one step closer to being back to normal. Megan even likes it and is getting excited that she can put part of her hair into a ponytail. Hopefully, after a couple more haircuts by Melissa, Megan's hair will be back to normal. Her appearance is starting to become very important as she will be a teenager soon.
