My mother stayed at St. John's Place twice after a serious car accident. The care she received was exceptional, aiding in her swift recovery. The dedicated staff exceeded expectations in tending to her needs and mine. Therapy played a crucial role in her progress. The nurses, CNAs, and housekeepers showed remarkable attentiveness to all residents. My mother formed close bonds with fellow residents, and her transition home was seamless thanks to the staff's efforts.
ABSOLUTELY AVOID this place for respite care. My mother's stay was a disaster due to the lack of cleanliness and absence of STAFF during my tour with Shannon from admissions. She presented a well-maintained section supposedly used for COVID, but all rooms were far from similar as she claimed. Upon arrival, there was no proper welcome for my mother as promised by Shannon, who was nowhere to be found except for the DON. After leaving and returning a few days later, my mother still had the same G-tube dressing from the initial day, stained from feeding. A T-shirt was also missing, and the staff was evasive. It's disheartening to realize the neglect in such facilities. Fortunately, my mother can stay with me, but the worry was constant when she was at St. Johns Place. Always ensure thorough research before entrusting a loved one to any care facility. The exorbitant cost did not reflect the care provided. They even refused to give her a shower.
The staffing levels at this facility are alarming. One nurse for over 40 residents on EACH shift is unacceptable. The profit-driven approach in many nursing homes leads to substandard care for residents. It's a dire situation. Families, please scrutinize staffing ratios during tours to ensure your loved ones receive proper care. Nurses and CNAs often struggle due to overwhelming workloads, but the onus is on facilities to improve conditions.
