The small museum in Powell, Wyoming is a hidden gem, showcasing a diverse collection of antiques and a fascinating array of artifacts, fossils, and minerals. Regrettably, my rating is only three stars due to a negative encounter with a staff member - a woman who displayed hostility when she learned our place of origin. This incident unsettled my wife, prompting her to leave abruptly, while I hurriedly explored the museum. Despite this, I do suggest visiting for the historical value, but with a word of caution regarding the staff's behavior.

The Homesteader Museum offers a glimpse into a captivating period in United States history. Powell, Wyoming played a crucial role in the Shoshone Project, a federal initiative in 1904 aimed at introducing irrigation to the Big Horn Basin in Wyoming and expanding agricultural land westward. The resilient and industrious Homesteaders who settled here laid the foundation for a thriving agricultural community with a modern outlook. The museum excels in local programs and national exhibits, thanks to the expertise of Director/ Curator Brandi Wright and her knowledgeable team. Enthusiasts of history are drawn to the pioneer and homesteading narratives, as well as the historic Beaver Homestead House on display. The engineering marvel of the irrigation system also captivates visitors, while families appreciate the Red train caboose and engaging exhibits. Both locals and tourists can partake in exciting events like Homesteader Days held every 2nd Saturday in September.
