Nice owner / stylist but very questionable pricing and intentions, i bought a $200 gift card for my partner's birthday, she displayed a photo of her desired style to the stylist (owner) and got a very vague estimate of the cost. The haircut turned out to be entirely different from what she desired and despite looking nice, the disparity between her expectation and the actual result left her unsettled. To worsen things, it ended up costing her $500 without including a gratuity (an expense she hadn't foreseen). Salons set their own rates and that's completely fine, but keeping the pricing open-ended and undisclosed until after the service is completed, in my view, is deceitful and poor practice, especially for a first-time client who comes in with a $200 gift card. When someone gives you a gift card, it's because they wish to cover something for you, not because they expect you to spend an extra $300 unexpectedly. The lack of communication on both the hair expectations and pricing has led to her decision not to return to this salon.
I had an exceptional time. I walked in and was promptly offered a consultation, for a highly intricate color request. I had my hair styled that day, with remarkable results. I received numerous compliments, even while out and about in NYC. One lady, a friend of a friend, mentioned, "I adore your hair; it's quintessential Manhattan hair." Thank you!
