The owner, Darren Rosa, began tattooing in 1984. The business evolved into Rising Dragon Tattoos in 1992. Emphasizing custom designs and personalized service from the start. In March 1997, the tattoo ban lifted, making us one of the first legal tattoo shops in NYC, located in Manhattan's Hotel Chelsea ground floor. In 2008, we relocated to the border of Chelsea and the West Village, now at 51 West 14th Street. Artists with a minimum of a decade of experience are carefully selected. Offering a wide range of tattoo styles including Japanese, Polynesian, Neo-Traditional, Black & Grey, Color, Sleeves, back-pieces, and Coverups. Striving for excellence, we take pride in delivering integrity and reliability.

I have been to rising dragon tattoo for years. They have done most of my tatts. All the large work. They are professional and relaxed and fair. Dakota has been my artist twice now and I am in love with the experience she offers as well as her work. She listens to what I want and is a perfect sounding board for ideas and suggestions. She's got an amazing sense of space and balance and her artistic aesthetic is superb. Highly suggest this place to anyone who wants tattoo art and wants work that is quality and extraordinary.
This is the second time I've had a tattoo done at Rising Dragon (the first was well over a decade ago), and this new experience was (as the first one was) absolutely first-rate. My tattooist, Dakota, and I went back and forth about the design, and she truly listened to my ideas, presented ideas of her own, and what we ended up with was not really like what I'd initially had in mind—but, truly, so much better. (I think that listening to the artist/expert is always a good idea.)
