This was probably the least relaxing massage I have ever experienced, truly the most disappointing massage encounter. I waited in the front lounge area until 15 minutes after my scheduled massage start time, which was fine assuming the massage therapist would adjust the time accordingly... but that did not happen. The massage began around 5:15 and concluded at 6. The therapist mentioned she could not see me in the waiting area on the camera. Overall, the massage therapist did not provide a relaxing experience. There was too much pressure and the massaging motions were too fast. This was my first time getting a massage at Hand and Stone; I usually go to Massage Envy. Very disappointing.
My wife and I were thrilled to finally utilize the gift card she received for her birthday. We arrived 15 minutes early for our 2 pm, 1-hour couples massage. He was assured he had a massage therapist who does relaxation with moderate pressure, and I had a therapist who had moderate to firm pressure and did a good relaxation to deep tissue massage. We had the option to switch but decided to keep it as is. Our massage room was chilly to start and remained so throughout the entire massage. Our massages actually commenced at 2:20 pm according to the clock in the room. I would not classify my massage as a massage; it was not relaxing, rejuvenating, or deep tissue. Every movement and stroke felt very abrupt, with inconsistent pressure and a lack of flow in movement or direction. A significant portion of my upper body on my left side was neglected. The abrupt, rough movements and pressure should not have been applied to the cervical spine and anterior aspect of the neck due to sensitive anatomical structures. With the jerky "pushing" on my limbs, there were several instances where my massage therapist caused my leg or arm to fall off the table. She would readjust the body part with an aggressive "sigh" as if it were my fault she was pushing my body around. My husband mentioned that even though his massage was relaxing, it was just average. Our massages concluded at 2:50 pm (again, noting we arrived at 1:45 pm, 2 pm was the scheduled start time and the massages actually began at 2:20 pm). I opted for aromatherapy, selecting Eucalyptus, yet neither myself nor my husband even detected this add-on during the massage. My husband agreed that the massages felt rushed; from the intake to the end. When we went to check out, the receptionist who checked us in tried to sell us a package despite my expressing dissatisfaction with my experience. When she reviewed the "notes from the therapist," my husband had a recommendation for future visits while I had none. The receptionist seemed "shocked" that there were no notes and attempted once again to push a membership, assuring me I would have a different therapist. The receptionist, in front of multiple customers, persistently tried to get me to explain why I did not have a good experience, creating a very uncomfortable and forced situation. I declined due to the uncomfortable environment.
