My evaluation of Lily's Canadian Salon is solely based on the atmosphere and communication with the owner, Lily. Today I phoned and scheduled an appointment with my preferred Stylist, and upon arrival, she led me to the shampoo area. As I passed by Lily, I greeted her as she has always been kind and welcoming to me. She glanced up from her phone and mumbled a greeting. Following a specific hair treatment routine, I brought my own shampoo and conditioner, as I have done in the past. After my Stylist finished styling my hair (which she always does a fantastic job with), I inquired about the cost of my service. She mentioned it was $40, so I handed her a $50 bill and requested change for a tip. I had brought cash due to a recent card fee policy and a notice requiring tips in cash. My Stylist called Lily and spoke in Spanish, which I did not understand, but assumed she was asking for change. Lily approached the register, placed the $50 in the drawer, and informed me that my hair service was $50 with no change. She justified the higher cost due to my long hair, claiming it was not mentioned prior to the service. I pointed out that the price board stated a shampoo and blow dry were $40. Lily dismissed my concerns and returned to her seat. I felt her reaction was personal and disrespectful, especially since I had previously paid $40 for the same service with equally long hair. I suggested she should have waived the extra charge or reduced it to $45, as is customary in the area, and clearly advertised any additional fees for longer hair. I found her attitude and customer service lacking, leaving me feeling unwelcome and confused about her behavior towards me. I had sought help elsewhere to repair my hair after a damaging bleaching experience at her salon, for which I did not hold her responsible. Given the communication challenges that can arise with non-native speakers, Lily's demeanor conveyed a message of indifference and inflexibility. Regrettably, I will not be returning to Lily's Canadian Salon for my hair care needs, opting for another salon with more reasonable pricing.
On my initial visit, I had a positive experience at the salon. Upon arrival, I inquired about pricing, and the attendant, Raquel, was courteous and informative throughout my visit. She provided excellent service and the salon was clean and well-organized. I highly recommend it and look forward to returning in the future.
