I was planning to wait until Sunday to share my experience with the American smoothing treatment I received today, but I can't hold it in. I had a less than satisfactory experience getting an American hair straightening treatment done on my wavy locks. The individual who styled my hair was pleasant, but failed to disclose the cost of the treatment beforehand, leading me to believe I would be paying $195, maybe $250 at most. During the initial flat ironing process, the left side of my head suffered steam burns, along with some areas at the nape of my neck. As we proceeded to the final flat ironing, I was left looking unkempt. While the body of my hair was sleek and smooth, the hair around my front and back hairline was a mix of crispy, kinked in various spots, and sticking out (with kinks). She completely overlooked straightening the roots on the sides of my head near my ears and at the nape of my neck. Those areas remained kinked and unruly. My bangs remained unrelaxed and stuck far from my face. I managed to fix most of these issues myself once I got home, and I hope they stay fixed. However, the real shock came when I was charged $375. Once again, I was not given a quote before the service. Discovering all these issues after paying and returning home, I felt that the outcome was definitely not worth $375 (excluding tip). I will not be revisiting this salon.
***Update: I washed my hair after the treatment, and it is now 10 times worse than it was before. It is frizzier than my natural hair, extremely coarse, and kinked all over. Most strands are kinked or curled and unruly. Now, I absolutely MUST straighten my hair every single day.
