This is my second visit to the ColorLab1 Hair salon with Helen, and I must say that Helen and the other staff members are incredibly talented and passionate about cutting and coloring hair (not just mine!). Helen's skills are truly exceptional, and she can bring to life whatever vision you have for your hair, regardless of the condition or circumstances. She is honest, and the prices are very reasonable, making you feel like you're getting your money's worth. I no longer see a reason to travel to Manhattan as Helen offers comparable services in the neighborhood with utmost professionalism. I wholeheartedly recommend Helen, from my joyful heart to yours!
I visited this place for the first time, and I had a wonderful experience! Helen and her team were exceptionally professional and welcoming, making me feel right at home. They provided valuable advice on my haircut and perm, especially considering it was my first time getting a perm. I wish them continued success in their business.
The process of washing my hair was quite pleasant, although the shoulder massage was a tad uncomfortable. I'm typically sensitive around my shoulders, but it didn't bother me too much. The experience was fine until the actual haircut. Let me start by saying that I had spent the past year growing out my hair from a short French bob. I decided to get a haircut to give some shape to my hair, which had finally reached a medium length of around 15 inches. I had gathered some inspiration pictures, linked below, which clearly showed layered cuts all around the head. Unfortunately, the haircut I received was absolutely dreadful. The hairdresser chopped off about 5 inches of my hair, undoing all the time and effort I had put into growing it out. I might have been able to overlook that if the haircut itself wasn't so poorly done. I am convinced that my hairstylist had never cut layers into hair before. There are no layers at the back of my head (the main reason for my haircut), and the only "layers" present are the two front pieces, which could better be described as chunks. I'm not too strict about every strand being perfectly even, but the two front face-framing strands should at least somewhat match, and they are completely uneven. The two front strands of my hair differ by at least an inch in length. I can't even style my usual go-to hairstyle for when I'm unhappy with the length of my hair because it requires the two front strands to be pulled out at the front, and I look absurd with them being completely uneven. This has severely dented my confidence. I started crying as soon as I got on the train and couldn't stop for at least three hours after reaching home. Every time I look in the mirror, I feel like crying, and there's nothing I can do except wait for my hair to grow back. I will never return to this salon, and if you have any texture, curl, wave, or coil in your hair, I strongly advise staying away.
